For many installations a periodic check of the magnetic flow meter is mandatory. A visual inspection should be the first line of defense against a faulty magnetic flow meter.
The excitation coil resistance of the sensor, insulation resistance between the signal wires, grounding resistance, and other readings should match the factory standards. Moreover, the verification method, which is done by a verification tool supplied by the flow meter manufacturer, should be followed as below:
First, the correct tag or the serial number of the flow meter should be checked. Then verification tool should be positioned around the flow meter converter. In the next step, the power supply of the converter should be switched off. After opening the dedicated software supplied by the manufacturer, the corresponding flow meter should be selected. The verification tool should automatically retrieve all relevant data.
After verification, a reconnection check must be performed. The power supply of the converter should be switched off. All cables from the converter should be disconnected.
That sets the flow meter into the starting condition. In the next step, the cables should be reconnected again. On the software, the reconnection tab should be pressed, which would create a detailed report.
Finally, to resume the flow meter’s normal operation the device to which the flow meter is connected should be turned on.
