    Succesful Case: Magnetic Meter in Wasterwater Treatment

    1.     Background Information

    The project involves the design and construction of a wastewater treatment plant with biological and further tertiary treatment. The effluent is disposed through an underwater pipe in the bay of Sami in a depth of 40 meters, while the produced sludge is mechanically thickened-dewatered using a belt filter press.

    Accurate monitoring of material flow in a wastewater treatment plant, as well as the use of the proper chemical cleaning agent mix, are required to meet both safety and regulatory requirements. A number of flow meters and solutions may be used to accomplish this. This study will cover the advantages and capabilities of magnetic flow meters in various applications.

    Solids, tiny particles, and gasses in the flow are all measured at each step of the operation.     2.    Measurement Requirements

    Water treatment that is more sustainable and efficient. The Zero Instrument’s Z100ES wastewater treatment facility was completely renovated, with a capacity of 175,000 m3/d of water. Zero Z100ES created a reed wetland while adopting a novel model.

    The species absorb any hydrocarbons left behind after the oil/water separation. Gravity lines provide water to the wetland amenities. As a result, the complex system not only provides a highly effective and ecologically responsible method of reclaiming clean water, but it also saves money. Because energy-intensive pump capacity are no longer necessary, energy consumption is reduced by up to 98 percent, lowering the plant’s carbon footprint substantially.

    3. Zero Instrument’s Solution

    Zero Instruments developed, constructed, and produced a wastewater treatment plant-specific measuring system. A water skid with two Z100ES electromagnetic flow meters (24″, Cl 300#), input and outlet lines (10D/5D), ball valves, and pre-installed gaskets are included.

    Prior to delivery, the metering skid has been calibrated to OIML R49 criteria for custody transfer measurement. The water skid’s Z-type allows for dual channel measurement as well as single channel measurement, with the non-active channel ready for service operations while the skid is in use.

    The flow meters were carefully coated to withstand the harsh environment of high ambient temperatures. In addition, the harsh process conditions necessitated that the skid’s entire piping be lined with phenolic to prevent corrosion.
