To do this step well, radar level meters are essential. Very often, when purchasing a radar level meter, users only focus on the range and application scope but ignore the temperature and pressure. Do temperature and pressure have an effect on radar level meters?

When browsing through radar level meter manuals, we come across the phrase: “virtually unaffected by temperature and pressure variations”. This statement is actually a good illustration of the effect of temperature and pressure on radar level meters. Temperature and pressure have some effect on radar level meters, but the effect is negligible.

The microwave pulses emitted by the radar level meter are electromagnetic waves, which are not affected by the density of the air in the tank during propagation, so the radar level meter can work normally in a pressurized environment. However, the structure of the radar level meter itself makes the radar level meter pressure higher than a certain range, the measurement will have a large or small error.

Therefore, as long as the radar level meter works within the specified pressure range, the measurement will not be affected.

The pressure is such that the temperature is practically similar. The electromagnetic waves emitted by the radar level meter do not require any transmission medium, including air, so the propagation speed of the radar level meter is not affected by changes in the temperature of the air inside the tank.

However, the temperature has a certain influence on some parts of the radar level meter, so within the specified temperature range, the radar level meter measurement is not affected, beyond a certain temperature range, the measurement will be inaccurate.

In fact, in most cases, the temperature and pressure do not exceed the process temperature of the radar level meter, so we can pay little attention to the temperature and pressure. However, we should pay more attention to the dielectric constant of the liquid medium and the turbulence of the liquid.

This is because the electromagnetic waves of the radar level meter are affected by the dielectric constant and the turbulence of the liquid, which can lead to a weakening of the return signal and affect the measurement.

Each radar level meter has a certain range of temperature and pressure, and we should choose the right product for our working conditions.
