Application of guided wave radar level meter in the level measurement of amine liquid absorption tower

In the petrochemical industry, the Amine Absorption Tower plays a vital role. It removes harmful carbon dioxide and other acid gases from industrial emissions by chemical absorption. The high viscosity and corrosive nature of the amine liquid makes monitoring and controlling the level of the amine liquid absorption tower particularly complex.

Therefore, the selection of a level measurement technology that is both accurate and reliable is essential to ensure the efficient operation of amine absorption towers. In this context, guided wave radar level meter is favored for its excellent performance.

Guided wave radar level gauges are based on the time-domain reflection (TDR) principle, which transmits microwave pulses and propagates them along the probe to the surface of the medium, where they are reflected back to the sensor. By analyzing the time difference between the emitted and received pulses, the level height can be accurately calculated.

Compared to other types of level measurement devices, guided wave radar level meters are less affected by environmental factors and can provide extremely high accuracy, which is especially important for amine liquid absorption towers.

A practical example from a chemical plant is given as an example. The plant’s amine absorption tower has a diameter of 3 meters and a height of 15 meters, and is used to treat flue gas containing CO2. In the past, the plant used differential pressure level meters for level measurement, but inaccuracies in measurement due to amine liquid adhesion occurred frequently.

In order to improve the accuracy of level monitoring, the plant decided to retrofit with guided wave radar level meters. After installing the guided wave radar level meter, a series of calibration work was first carried out.

The technicians ensured that the measured reference point matched the actual liquid level, and at the same time adjusted the sensitivity to suit the specific nature of the amine liquid. After the initial commissioning, the guided wave radar level meter began to operate stably. The output signals were not only accurate but also responsive, providing stable readings even in the face of large fluctuations in the amine liquid.

In addition, the installation and maintenance of the guided wave radar level meter is relatively simple. As the probe can be installed directly inside the vessel, no additional openings or complex fittings are required, greatly simplifying the installation process. At the same time, the frequency and difficulty of maintenance is reduced due to its non-contact measurement method.

In practical application, guided wave radar level meter shows excellent stability and reliability. It is not only able to operate stably in harsh working environments, but also able to provide real-time liquid level data to help operators adjust the operating parameters of the amine liquid absorption tower in a timely manner, which ensures the efficiency and safety of the entire treatment process.

Its successful application provides a new solution for liquid level measurement in the petrochemical industry, which helps to promote the technological progress and safe production in the industry.
