Installation considerations for radar level meters in tank measurement

The correct installation of the radar level meter is a key factor to ensure high accuracy and trouble-free measurement of liquid level, the radar level meter should be installed in the chemical tank area with the following points in mind.

There should be no obstacles within the beam angle because the radar level meter mainly adopts the transmit-reflect-receive working mode to accurately measure the liquid level, there should be no devices causing reflection within the transmit angle, that is, there should be no obstacles within the transmit angle.

Secondly, away from the inlet and outlet and the center of the tank, the radar level meter installed above the inlet will receive more false reflection echoes, and the level of the inlet and outlet will fluctuate unstably, which will affect the accurate measurement of the radar level meter. In addition, to avoid the impact of false echoes, the sensor cannot be installed in the center of the tank or very close to the tank wall, the distance from the sensor nozzle to the tank wall is about 1/6 of the tank diameter.

When using the bypass tube or guide tube installation method, the inner surface of the guide tube or guide tube must be smooth and burr-free and open symmetrical small holes to ensure that the radar echo is accurate and will not cause interference.

Another thing to mention is that the radar level meter is installed at the top of the tank, and for the convenience of the operator on site, the tank side indicator is generally installed on the ground as an on-site monitoring instrument for the level measurement.

As part of the tank level measurement system, the tank side indicator collects the measured values of the connected tank area instruments, calculates and compensates for the various measured data in the tank area, and communicates with the tank area via the field bus.

The management system is connected. In order to meet the safety requirements of the high-level tank area, the regulatory authorities at all levels have put forward strict requirements for tank-level measurement and safety interlock protection for high and low-level overruns.

Overall the high precision and accurate measurement of tank-level instruments directly affect the safety and protection systems in the tank farm. Choosing the right tank level meter is an important factor in improving the safety and stability of the system.

The radar level meter has the advantages of a wide range of applications, high measurement accuracy, no contact with the process medium, easy installation and maintenance, etc. It is especially suitable for continuous and accurate measurement of liquid levels in petrochemical tank areas.

However, attention must be paid to the correct installation in order to make the radar level meter play its maximum advantage in the measurement process.
