Understanding radar level meter housings from two perspectives

Why was the radar level meter recommended to me with plastic housing, is it not strong? Why is the radar level meter I bought a double chamber, is it better to have a single chamber or a double chamber?

These types of questions are often asked by customers. Today, we will analyze the housing of the radar level meter from the point of view of material and single and double cavities.

At present, there are three main materials used for the housing of radar level meters, namely aluminum housing, plastic housing, and stainless steel housing.

Most of the aluminum used in radar-level meter housings is cast aluminum.  that cast aluminum has four main properties, namely safety, durability, plasticity, and light weight. The safety is mainly from two aspects, the light weight of aluminum makes it less prone to danger during handling, installation, and maintenance. In addition, cast aluminum undergoes very rigorous experiments during the manufacturing process, so that it has a high resistance strength to certain phenomena (wind pressure, weathering, etc.).

Durability means that cast aluminum is not prone to oxidation and rust, both of which stem from the high stability of aluminum. Malleability refers to the fact that aluminum is very ductile and malleable, allowing it to be used in many places. The light weight makes it easier to install and maintain, in addition to being safer.

The plastic housing radar level meter is the most important feature of good insulation, and corrosion resistance. Stainless steel shell, the production material is mostly 304 and 316L. 304 stainless steel high-temperature resistance, high toughness, 316L the most significant feature is corrosion resistance.

The medium measured by the radar level meter is either sulphuric acid, nitric acid, and other corrosive liquids, or sewage, filtered water, and other liquids with steam or volatile appearances.

The radar level meter is installed on occasions, either in storage tanks or in reaction tanks with temperature and pressure changes. From the above working conditions of the radar level meter, aluminum, plastic, and stainless steel are very suitable for use in the housing of the radar level meter.

After talking about the material of the housing, let’s take a look at the double-cavity radar level meter and the single-cavity radar level meter.

The single-cavity radar level meter is intrinsically safe and explosion-proof, it is explosion-proof from the line; the double-cavity radar level meter is explosion-proof, and it has an additional explosion-proof module in the structure, and the explosion-proof level is higher.

In addition to the differences in frequency, there are also differences in the type of antenna, the connection method, and even the material of the radar level meter. When choosing one, careful consideration must be given.
