Radar level meter measures blast furnace coke

In the steel production process, blast furnace coke is an important reducing agent and heat source. The accurate measurement of its level is critical to ensure the stable operation of the blast furnace. The characteristics of blast furnace coke and its requirements for measurement technology make radar level meter an ideal measurement tool.

Blast furnace coke is a carbon material made by dry distillation of coking coal at high temperature. It has a fixed shape, size and high bulk density. In terms of physical properties, coke presents an irregular porous structure, which makes its surface rough and has strong wave absorption. 

In terms of chemical properties, the main component of coke is carbon, but it also contains a small amount of sulfur, hydrogen and other elements. 

These components may react chemically under high temperature and affect the measurement results. Due to the extremely harsh internal environment of the blast furnace, high temperature, high dust and corrosive gas, higher requirements are placed on the measuring equipment. 

Radar level meter has become the preferred equipment for blast furnace coke level measurement with its advantages of non-contact measurement, high temperature and high pressure resistance and strong anti-interference ability.

Radar level meter is based on microwave radar technology. It determines the material level by emitting microwave signals and receiving reflected signals. 

When microwaves encounter the surface of the material, reflection will occur. The distance is calculated based on the time difference between emission and reception, and then the material level height is obtained. 

This measurement method is not affected by the physical and chemical properties of the medium, such as density, conductivity, viscosity, etc., and is particularly suitable for the measurement of complex media such as blast furnace coke. The blast furnace coke silo of a steel plant uses a radar level meter for level measurement. 

The blast furnace is designed to produce millions of tons per year. The height of the coke silo exceeds 20 meters and the diameter is about 10 meters. 

In the actual measurement, the installation position of the radar level meter is first selected to ensure that it can cover the entire material surface and is not blocked by obstacles in the silo. 

After the installation is completed, the technicians set the parameters of the radar level meter, including adjusting the transmission frequency, setting the measurement range, etc., to adapt to the characteristics of blast furnace coke. 

Calibration is performed before the first use to ensure the accuracy of the measurement data. Subsequently, the radar level meter began continuous measurement.

After a period of operation, the radar level meter has shown good performance. Even when there is a lot of dust in the blast furnace coke and the temperature changes greatly, the radar level meter can provide stable measurement data. 

The data shows that the consumption rate of coke matches the production plan, indicating that the measurement results have high reliability. 

Through this actual case, it can be seen that the radar level meter performs well in the measurement of blast furnace coke and can meet the needs of blast furnace operation.
