The mud storage tank sounds a bit strange. In fact, it is an important device in a modular drilling rig for the oil industry. The mud stored inside is mainly used as a coolant and lubricant during drilling operations, and the accuracy of its level monitoring is directly related to the safety of drilling operations.
Mud, known professionally as drilling fluid, is a combination of clay, water, and chemical additives. This medium contains particles, and hazardous gases and is viscous and corrosive. Contact level measurement can easily lead to inaccurate or even impossible measurements. Therefore, the ideal measurement method for this condition is a non-contact radar level meter.
There are two types of non-contact radar level meters: standard and explosion-proof, which are divided into intrinsically safe and explosion-proof types. The slurry medium contains dangerous gases, so try to use the explosion-proof type of non-contact radar level meter.
The mud is corrosive but slightly corrosive, so you can use the Huibo Xinrui high-frequency radar level meter RD902, which is mainly used to measure temperature and pressure-resistant, slightly corrosive liquids.
However, during use, care must be taken in the later stages of maintenance and servicing.
Firstly, check and clean the antenna regularly to prevent particles from adhering to the antenna and affecting the accuracy of the measurement. Mud has a certain stickiness and it is inevitable that the antenna will get stained during use. So it is very necessary to clean the antenna regularly.
Secondly, check the terminals regularly to check whether there is corrosion or dirt on them and whether there is poor contact. If necessary, the terminals can be replaced to ensure the normal operation of the instrument.
Finally, regularly check the power supply and voltage to ensure that the fuses are not blown and that the meter is functioning properly.
Whether measuring slurry storage tanks or other storage tanks, the right level meter model should be selected at the same time to determine the right installation location, the right installation method, and even proven maintenance methods. Only in this way can the measuring instrument have more stable measurement data and longer service life under the premise of accurate measurement.
