How much the medium affects the radar level meter measurement

Radar level meter as a precision instrument, generally speaking, its measurement accuracy is very high. But it can also be affected by some factors, resulting in some problems, which include the influence of the media. Understanding the impact of the medium on the radar level meter, and the selection of the radar level meter, play a vital role.

The measurement principle of the radar level meter is that the radar level meter antenna emits narrow microwave pulses, which are transmitted downward by the antenna. After the microwave touches the surface of the measured medium, it is reflected back and received again by the antenna system, which transmits the signal to the electronic circuit part to be automatically converted into a level signal.

Because the microwave propagation speed is very fast, the electromagnetic waves reach the target and return to the receiver by the reflection of the time used in this round trip is almost instantaneous.

Users who have little knowledge of radar level meters must often hear the term “echo signal strength”. The echo signal strength is influenced by the state of the measured material surface. For example, the dielectric constant or hardness of the measured medium, if the dielectric constant and hardness of the measured medium are proportional to the intensity of the reflected echo of the electromagnetic wave, the larger the dielectric constant and hardness, the stronger the reflected echo will be. If the measured media material surface pile angle, and the radar level meter measurement position of the material pile angle just in the corner or high, will affect the accuracy of the measurement.

There is also the stability of the measured material surface, granularity, looseness, the measured medium humidity, etc. will have an impact. In addition, the temperature and pressure of the medium, whether it is corrosive. Whether it contains steam or dust, the crystallization of volatile substances in the environment or dust adhesion problems, etc., will cause the electromagnetic wave to reach the measured material surface with a large attenuation, thus affecting the accuracy of radar level meter measurement.

Just because the medium has a great impact on the radar level meter before you buy a radar level meter, you need to provide detailed information about the medium you are measuring, and information about the working conditions.

You need to tell the manufacturer what the measured medium is, whether it is corrosive, whether there is dust, crystallization, the lowest temperature of the measured material, the highest temperature, the size of the pressure, and the maximum distance measured, and the requirements of the blind area, but also to know whether explosion-proof and so on.
