Do you understand the false echoes generated by radar level meters? - Just Measure it

Do you understand the false echoes generated by radar level meters?

When a radar level meter measures a medium, the microwave pulses emitted or reflected back to the microwave pulses are interfered with, resulting in inaccurate measurements, which are customarily called false echoes in the industry.

Generally speaking, there are two types of spurious echoes: random echoes and fixed echoes. Random echoes are generated for many reasons, but the common reasons are mainly as follows.

1. The radar level meter in the installation, is too close to the inlet, into the material easy to produces false echoes. For this situation, the installation position can be replaced, or the false echo can be shielded by means of debugging, the key to seeing which solution is more suitable.

2. There are stirring devices in the tank, stirring when the false echo is caused. In this case, it is generally recommended to use a filter to eliminate as much as possible.

There are also two main causes of fixed echoes.

1. False echoes caused by improper installation position. An intelligent radar level meter installed in the conical tank above the inlet, the arch-shaped tank, or the middle of the round tank top, will produce false echoes, affecting the stability and accuracy of the measurement. For this reason of false echo, the solution is to reselect the installation position.

2. False echoes caused by obstacles in the tank. If there are obstacles such as level switches or brackets in the tank, false echoes can easily occur if they are not installed properly.

For this situation, it is recommended that the solution at the source, that is, to select the suitable radar level meter installation location and installation method.

Generally speaking, false echoes can be eliminated by installing a waveguide tube inside the tank or by connecting a bypass tube outside the tank and installing the radar level meter in the waveguide tube or bypass tube.

There are many reasons for false echoes and if commissioning does not solve the problem, it is necessary to change the installation position or adjust the installation angle.
