Liquid ammonia is a colorless liquid with a strong irritating odor. As an important chemical raw material, ammonia is usually obtained in liquid form by pressurizing or cooling gaseous ammonia for transportation and storage convenience. 

Liquid ammonia is easily soluble in water and forms ammonium ions NH4+ and hydroxide ions OH- after dissolving in water, and the solution is alkaline. Liquid ammonia is mostly stored in pressure-resistant steel cylinders or steel tanks, and cannot coexist with acetaldehyde, acrolein, boron, and other substances. 

Liquid ammonia is widely used in industry, corrosive and volatile, so its chemical accident rate is high, then its level measurement is a very important thing. The radar-level antenna emits narrow microwave pulses, which are transmitted downward by the antenna. 

After the microwave touches the surface of the measured medium, it is reflected back and received again by the antenna system, which transmits the signal to the electronic circuit part automatically converted into a level signal, because the microwave propagates very fast, the time used for the electromagnetic wave to reach the target and return to the receiver by reflection is almost instantaneous. Radar level meter is not affected by pressure, temperature, or fear of corrosive liquids, it can be in a variety of complex working conditions, smooth work.

A company needs to install and use radar level meter to measure the medium of liquid ammonia tank, the tank height is 28m, using high-frequency radar level meter measurement, but the instrument measurement after a period of time, the liquid level suddenly appeared no indication of failure. So the customer sought our help. Initially, our after-sales engineer analyzed three reasons, namely, the radar transmitter tube was damaged, the instrument parameters were set incorrectly, and the radar level meter was selected incorrectly. 

After checking the instrument parameters and replacing the transmitter tube, the fault was still not solved, the after-sales engineer immediately made a second visit and analysis, found that the liquid measured by the customer had ammonia, this medium has absorption effect on radar waves, which is a special measuring medium, so we suggested the customer to use high frequency radar level meter, model RD906 for measurement, after replacement, the problem was solved and the measurement was normal. 

This radar level meter is one of our 26G high-frequency radar type level measuring instruments, measuring the maximum distance up to 20 meters. The antenna is further optimized and the new fast microprocessor can carry out higher speed signal analysis and processing, which makes the meter can be used in some complex measurement conditions such as reactor, solid silo, etc.
