Application of guided wave radar level gauge in liquid level measurement of acid water stripper

Accurate measurement and control of liquid levels within containers is crucial during chemical production processes. Especially when dealing with media with corrosive or special physical properties, choosing the right level measurement technology is particularly critical. As a common equipment in the chemical process, the liquid inside the acid water stripper is usually highly corrosive, which requires the liquid level meter not only to have high measurement accuracy, but also to have good corrosion resistance. This article will discuss the application of guided wave radar level gauge in liquid level measurement of acid water stripper.

Acid water stripping tower is mainly used to remove harmful acid gases in wastewater, such as hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, etc. During this process, the liquid inside the tower often contains high concentrations of acids and other corrosive chemicals.

These substances place special requirements on the material and measurement principle of the liquid level gauge:

1. Strong corrosiveness: Acidic media may cause ordinary metal materials to corrode rapidly, so the liquid level gauge needs to be made of corrosion-resistant materials.

2. Foam and sediment: Foam or sediment may be produced during the stripping process, which will affect the accuracy of the liquid level.

3. Temperature and pressure changes: The temperature and pressure in the tower may fluctuate greatly, and the liquid level gauge needs to be able to adapt to these changes.

4. High measurement accuracy requirements: In order to ensure the stripping effect, the liquid level needs to be accurately controlled.

Guided wave radar level gauge uses microwave pulses to propagate along a wave guide rod. When the microwave encounters different media, it will generate reflected waves. The liquid level is determined by analyzing the characteristics of the reflected waves. This kind of liquid level gauge has the following advantages:

1. High corrosion resistance: Since the propagation of microwaves does not depend on metal parts, non-metallic materials can be used to make the probe, such as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), which has good corrosion resistance. Corrosion resistance.

2. High-precision measurement: Guided wave radar level gauge is not affected by changes in the medium and can provide high-precision measurement results.

3. Easy to install and maintain: Compared with other types of level gauges, guided wave radar level gauges are easier to install and maintain.

The sour water stripper in a chemical plant requires liquid level measurement. Since the liquid in the tower contains high concentrations of sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid, the traditional float level gauge cannot withstand this highly corrosive environment.

Therefore, it was decided to use guided wave radar level gauge for transformation. During the implementation process, we first selected a guided wave radar liquid level gauge suitable for high temperature and high pressure environments. Its waveguide is made of PTFE material, which can effectively resist acid corrosion.

During installation, insert the probe vertically from the top of the tower to ensure that the microwave can directly contact the liquid surface.

After the system was debugged, the liquid level gauge was successfully put into operation to monitor the changes in liquid level in the tower in real time and transmit the data to the central control room.

After several months of operation, the guided wave radar level gauge has shown extremely high reliability and stability, and can accurately reflect the true level of the liquid even in the presence of foam and sediment.

In addition, due to its excellent corrosion resistance, the level gauge does not show any signs of corrosion, greatly extending the service life of the equipment.

The application of guided wave radar level gauge in liquid level measurement of acid water stripper proves its superior performance in highly corrosive environment.

Through reasonable material selection and design, guided wave radar level gauges can not only provide accurate measurement data, but also ensure long-term and stable operation, providing strong technical support for chemical production.
