Analysis of radar level meter data jumps through typical cases

Radar level meters often encounter data jumps in the course of use. How is this caused? How can this be solved step by step? Next, let’s look at a case study.

Case study.

Service location: Henan

Service time: September 2021

Site details of working conditions (temperature, pressure, medium): room temperature and pressure, measuring coal lumps, sticking the radar into an overture to measure, and gantry frame connection.

Which instruments are used on site: RD903

Site use: Data jump

Judgment analysis: the installation environment is special, the angle cannot be adjusted, and there are 2-4 feed ports around the installation, the real signal is too small.

Solution: remove the antenna dust cover and replace it with a plastic bag, increase the signal and debug the material medium, damping time, and other parameters.

From this case, it can be seen that the radar level meter jumps mainly because there are too many inlets and the interference signal is too large, resulting in too small a real signal. In this case, we can usually solve the problem in two steps.

The first step is to enhance the true signal reflection by various methods. In the case above, this is done by replacing the antenna dust cover with a plastic bag to reduce the interference signal and increase the true signal. In fact, if there is only one inlet, the true signal can be increased by adjusting the angle of the antenna. Alternatively, replacing the board with a larger signal board can also solve the problem of signal jumping. The choice of method to increase the signal depends on the specific situation within the working conditions.

Step 2: Optimise the software program to filter the jump data. The working conditions are different and the specific circumstances of the data jumps are not the same. In order to solve the problem better, we have to think and solve the problem from many angles so that the radar level meter can play its best role.

Although data jumping is a problem, there are many reasons for it and the solution will naturally be different. So, when you encounter a problem, listen to the advice of a professional engineer, who will come up with a solution that is most beneficial to the actual working conditions from a professional point of view.
