80GHz Radar Level Meter for High-Temperature Rosin Reactor - Just Measure it

80GHz Radar Level Meter for High-Temperature Rosin Reactor

Hello everyone,

Today we would like to introduce our JWrada32 80GHz Radar Level Meter, specially configured for a challenging high-temperature reactor application.

This project is used for continuous level measurement inside a rosin production reactor, where conventional level measurement technologies often face difficulties due to extreme temperature, vacuum conditions, vapor buildup, agitation, and foam.

Let’s take a closer look.

Application Description

This radar level transmitter is designed for a rosin reactor vessel.

Process Conditions

  • Tank Height: Approximately 3 to 4 meters
  • Medium: Molten Rosin
  • Operating Temperature: 230°C to 260°C
  • Process Pressure: Vacuum Condition
  • Agitator Installed Inside Reactor
  • Foam May Occur During Processing
  • Rosin Vapors and Oil Ester Components Present

One of the key challenges is that the generated vapor can gradually form a thin sticky film on the antenna surface.

In addition, the mixing process can create turbulence and occasional foam, making stable level measurement more difficult.

Why Choose 80GHz Radar?

1. Narrow Beam Angle

The 80GHz radar uses a 3-degree beam angle, which allows the radar signal to focus directly on the product surface.

This helps avoid interference from:

  • Reactor walls
  • Internal structures
  • Agitator blades
  • Nozzles and mounting pipes

2. Excellent Performance in Vapor Conditions

Compared with lower-frequency radar technologies, the 80GHz radar offers stronger signal focusing and better immunity to process vapor interference.

Even when rosin vapor is present inside the reactor, the radar can maintain stable measurement performance.

3. High Temperature Resistance

The instrument is designed to withstand temperatures up to 260°C, making it suitable for demanding chemical and resin production processes.

4. Suitable for Vacuum Applications

The reactor operates under vacuum conditions.

The JWrada32 is designed to perform reliably in both vacuum and pressurized environments, ensuring accurate level measurement throughout the process.

Installation Recommendation

For this type of application, we recommend:

✔ Installing the radar away from the agitator shaft

✔ Avoiding direct alignment with internal obstacles

✔ Keeping the antenna surface clean during scheduled maintenance

✔ Using the shortest possible mounting extension

✔ Ensuring the radar beam has a clear view of the product surface

These practices help maximize long-term measurement stability.
