Analytical radar level gauge measures fuel tank level - Just Measure it

Analytical radar level gauge measures fuel tank level

Fuel tanks are important facilities for storing fuel, and the accurate measurement of oil level is directly related to energy management and safety.

Therefore, using high-precision and reliable measurement technology to monitor the oil level of fuel tanks is a key part of ensuring the continuity and safety of energy supply.

Among many liquid level measurement technologies, radar level gauge has become the preferred equipment for fuel tank oil level measurement due to its advantages of non-contact measurement, high accuracy and strong stability.

The characteristics of the oil level in the fuel tank mainly include: the dielectric constant of the fuel is high, which has a certain impact on the propagation of electromagnetic waves; interfering factors such as steam and foam may exist inside the fuel tank, which affects the measurement accuracy; the volatility and flammability of the fuel Safety requires that the measuring equipment must have good explosion-proof performance.

For these characteristics, radar level gauges can provide effective solutions. The working principle of radar level gauge is based on microwave pulse time of flight (TOF) or frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) technology. It emits microwave signals, which are reflected back after encountering the liquid surface, and the liquid level is calculated based on the time or frequency changes of the echoes.

Because microwaves can penetrate most media, including steam and foam, radar level gauges can work stably in harsh environments and provide accurate measurement results.

In the fuel storage area of a chemical plant, in order to ensure the stability and safety of fuel supply, a radar level gauge is used to monitor the oil level of large fuel tanks.

The fuel tank has a diameter of 10 meters and a height of 15 meters and is used to store diesel fuel. Since diesel has a certain volatility, steam is easily formed in the tank, which puts higher requirements on the selection of liquid level gauges.

During the implementation of the project, a detailed analysis of the fuel tank was first conducted. Taking into account the steam and foam that may form in the tank, a radar level gauge with good penetration capability that is suitable for high-temperature and high-pressure environments was selected.

The liquid level gauge uses high-frequency microwave signals, which can effectively penetrate the vapor layer and reduce measurement errors. At the same time, the explosion-proof design of the equipment ensures safe use in flammable and explosive environments.

During installation, the radar level gauge is installed at the top center of the fuel tank to ensure that the microwave signal is perpendicular to the liquid level to obtain the best measurement effect.

During the commissioning phase, technicians accurately calibrated the liquid level gauge to ensure the accuracy of the measurement data. After being put into use, the radar level gauge has shown extremely high stability and reliability.

The level gauge can accurately measure changes in oil level even when a thick layer of vapor forms inside the tank. In addition, through integration with the automated control system, real-time monitoring and data analysis of oil levels are achieved, greatly improving the efficiency and safety of fuel management.
