Water velocity meter is a device used to measure the flow of water in a water body, either in an open water channel or an enclosed system. Although there are many types of water velocity meters, they all have similar components that sum up to form a water velocity meter. These components includes; the indicators, sensors, counter and transducer.
The indicators provide readings for the user, it is the part of the velocity meter that interprets the flow of the water body into figures. The sensors are more like antennas for the velocity meter. It is the sensors that detect flow in a water body. The function of the counter is to monitor the flow that passes through the velocity meter. While the transducer serves as a bridge between the counter and the sensor. Its sole purpose is to transmit signals from sensors to counters.
Water velocity meters fall under three major divisions. The ultrasonic, the mechanical and the electromagnetic. They all possess similar components but they differ in their working mechanisms.
The Ultrasonic Meter
This meter determines water velocity in two ways. The first is by sending sound waves to the water depths to measure the flow of water. The difference in sound wave frequency determines the flow stream. It is done using a doppler technology. The second method measures the difference in time of signals sent downstream and upstream. It is carried out using a transmit time technology.
The Electromagnetic Meter
This meter determines water velocity by the amount of voltage that passes through its magnetic field. The pipe immersed into water is surrounded by an electromagnetic field, and as water passes through this field, voltage is being generated. The speed at which water passes through the electromagnetic field is directly proportional to the voltage produced.
The Mechanical Meter
There are several types of mechanical water velocity meter as it is the most common type of meter used to determine water velocity. Its operating mechanism is in one of two ways. Either by allowing water flow through a spinning turbine, by so doing measuring the velocity of water or by passing water through a couple of gear Chambers.
The LS1206B Propeller Type Current Meter
Originally made in China, the LS1206B propeller type current meter is a typical electromagnetic water velocity meter. It is made up of a tail fin, wading rod, sensor, transducer and counter. It works by sending signals generated through the propellers that initiates rotatory motion upon contact to a flowing water body. The signals generated by the propellers otherwise known as sensors are transmitted through the transducer to the counter.
It functions properly in all forms of water source ranging from rivers to pipelines and irrigation channels. It is very portable with a notable high level in accuracy of measurement. It functions properly in temperatures between 0 to 35 degrees Celsius. Anything outside this range is considered temperature for boiling or hot water which is bad for the propellers (sensors). It can work for 24 hours at a stretch. Giving the user enough time to take measurements at different water depths over an extended period of time.
Process of Export to Armenia
For more than 30 years China has made countless international transactions with the Republic of Armenia. Ranging from high tech machinery to agricultural crops as well as many other items of value. For all goods there are several requirements. Requirements from the country from which the export takes place to the recipient country or final destination.
The first requirement for exporting the LS1206B propeller type current meter is a sales contract or an invoice. This invoice should contain all properties of the current meter down to its price, the quantity requested, shipping requirements and finally the mode of payment.
Sales contract or invoice is usually concluded between the exporter from China and the importer from Armenia. Before the current meter is cleared for shipping relevant documents such as inspection certificate, certificate of origin, insurance policy and export licence will be made available because these are part of the documents that will be inspected upon arrival of the goods in Armenia.
The next step is to work alongside a logistics service provider to ensure the shipment is confirmed either by air or by sea. The exporter provides relevant information such as the weight of the goods, the value and destination to the logistics provider who in turn creates a waybill that serves as proof of shipment. Afterwards, payments or tax levied on all exports by the government will be paid by the exporter before the goods can be cleared to leave the borders of China.
Upon arrival of the current meter in Armenia, the importer presents all relevant documents to the custom authorities; each document must be accurate and legit as it will go through proper scrutiny at the custom office. Afterwards, the importer will meet with the logistics service provider for a proper inspection of the meters to ensure that everything is as required before finally making payments to the exporter.

Being a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) They are remanded by law to meet up to certain extra standards for each imported goods. There are many uncertainties surrounding the implementation of these laws.
Size of Market
Armenia’s trade market is relatively small. Of all four of its major neighbouring countries, it only indulges in international trade with two countries. Georgia and Iran. The trade with Iran is still heavily restricted. While it maintains a closed border policy with Turkey and Azerbaijan.
