Application of electromagnetic flow meter in wastewater treatment - Just Measure it

Application of electromagnetic flow meter in wastewater treatment

1. Background Information

Accurate monitoring of material flow in a wastewater treatment plant, as well as the use of the proper chemical cleaning agent mix, are required to meet both safety and regulatory requirements. A number of flow meters and solutions may be used to accomplish this. This study will cover the advantages and capabilities of magnetic flow meters in various applications.

The functioning of magnetic flow meters, often known as mag meters, is governed by Faraday’s Law of Electromagnetism. Because the more conductive fluid is (impurities make water conductive), the better it will be reflected in the measurements, mag meters are ideally suited for wastewater applications.

Solids, tiny particles, and gasses in the flow are all measured at each step of the operation. The results will be used to identify treatment alternatives, such as how long the water should remain in the evaporation tanks, how much fat and grease could be present in the combination, and what other materials would necessitate additional water samples or treatment.

The Sami Water Supply and Sewage Municipal Enterprise employed Zero Instruments to handle the remodeling of their wastewater treatment plant, below show how we handled this brief, what the measurement requirements to be met are, and the results obtained.

2. Measurement Requirements

Water treatment that is more sustainable and efficient. The Zero Instrument’s Z100ES wastewater treatment facility was completely renovated, with a capacity of 175,000 m3/d of water. Zero Z100ES created a reed wetland while adopting a novel model.

The species absorb any hydrocarbons left behind after the oil/water separation. Gravity lines provide water to the wetland amenities. As a result, the complex system not only provides a highly effective and ecologically responsible method of reclaiming clean water, but it also saves money. Because energy-intensive pump capacity is no longer necessary, energy consumption is reduced by up to 98 percent, lowering the plant’s carbon footprint substantially.

The authorities pay the operator based on the volume of water delivered. The customer requested a comprehensive flow metering system at the plant’s intake to enable very precise invoicing operations. The system has to comply with the OIML R49 custody transfer standards as well as fulfill the stringent process conditions.

3. Zero Instrument’s Solution

Zero Instruments developed, constructed, and produced a wastewater treatment plant-specific measuring system. A water skid with two Z100ES electromagnetic flow meters (24″, Cl 300#), input and outlet lines (10D/5D), ball valves, and pre-installed gaskets are included.

Prior to delivery, the metering skid has been calibrated to OIML R49 criteria for custody transfer measurement. The water skid’s Z-type allows for dual-channel measurement as well as single-channel measurement, with the non-active channel ready for service operations while the skid is in use.

The flow meters were carefully coated to withstand the harsh environment of high ambient temperatures. In addition, the harsh process conditions necessitated that the skid’s entire piping be lined with phenolic to prevent corrosion. To manage the high salty component of the medium, all of the valves were fabricated of Inconel.

For each measurement system, Zero Instruments has also created a modular metering control solution. The control room’s metering control cabinets were delivered fully connected, set up, and tested.

4. Customer Benefits

The operator can exactly identify all of the wastewater loads collected and handled with the aid of the customized skid. Flowmeters accurately measure tainted water including a little quantity of oil. For billing reasons, clear and consistent data is supplied in this manner.

The WTP operator may now see how much money has been lost due to oil remaining in generated water. The wastewater treatment project recovers around 750 barrels of crude oil each day. The oil that is recovered is returned to the exploration firm.

One of the world’s largest, most innovative, and ecologically friendly wastewater treatment plants now uses the Zero Instruments metering system. Zero Instruments provided the entire solution as a single source.

This turned out to be one of the main advantages for the consumer. Zero Instruments distinguished itself from competitors by providing the full scope of work, including project management – from consultation, planning, engineering, and documentation to the supply and integration of the metering solution, as well as after-sales services – all while maintaining the required quality standards and adhering to all relevant OIML regulations.

5. Product Used

The Z100ES is an electromagnetic flow meter that measures fluid density, viscosity, temperature, and pressure without being impacted by changes in fluid density, viscosity, temperature, or pressure.

It has a particular adaptation to slurry measurements since there are no blockage components in the measuring tube, there is no pressure loss, and it minimizes the need for straight-line pipes.

It has very good resistance to corrosion and wears, it also has the features of a fully digital processing, strong anti-interference ability, with reliable measurements, high precision, and a wide range flow.
