Recommended radar level meters for fuel plant tanks - Just Measure it

Recommended radar level meters for fuel plant tanks

Fuel plants, not only the commonly used gasoline, diesel, asphalt, and liquefied gas, but also the rare aviation paraffin and fuel oil, and so on. For these media, what kind of radar level meter is most suitable? Look at a few typical ones together.

Petrol in fuel plants is usually stored in internal floating roof tanks of up to 20,000 square meters. For the measurement of this medium, either a flared radar level meter or a cable-type guided wave radar level meter can be chosen. Whichever is chosen, however, the level meter should preferably be installed in the wave-guide tube.

In fuel plants, petrol is usually stored in internal floating roof tanks, while diesel and aviation paraffin are usually stored in vaulted tanks of less than 20,000 square meters. For the measurement of such media, the working conditions are relatively simple, and cable-type guided wave radar level meters, small parabolic radar level meters, and small horn radar level meters are generally available, depending on which one is more suitable for your own working conditions.

While the conditions of the above types of media are relatively simple, the following types of media are relatively more complex. Fuel oil in fuel plants is also usually stored in vaulted tanks of less than 20,000 square meters, but the tanks are mostly equipped with heating coils, by which the fuel oil is kept warm and heated.

If this medium is to be measured, both small horn radar level meters and small parabolic radar level meters are available, but whichever is chosen, the heating coils at the bottom should be avoided when installing them so as not to affect the measurement results.

Finally, let’s look at the bitumen medium. Bitumen, too, is stored in vaulted tanks, but the tanks have heating coils that can reach temperatures of up to 150 degrees C or more, a situation where coking can easily occur on the antenna. When choosing a radar level meter, it is best to choose a large parabolic antenna.

The several media described above are typical of refineries. In fact, whether it is a fuel plant or a chemical plant, the key to choosing a radar level meter is to understand clearly your own working conditions so that you can choose a suitable and appropriate level meter model.
