Problem 1: Measurement fluctuations due to external disturbances
When a company used radar level meters to measure maleic anhydride, it was found that one of them was showing small fluctuations. On examination, it was found that there was a low-power electric motor near the measuring tank. When the motor operated, the meter showed small fluctuations.
The radar level meter emits radar waves with low power, which are easily affected by external frequency motor speed controllers, strong currents, and strong voltages, so when the radar level meter is installed in such a place, care must be taken to do grounding as well as shielding treatment to avoid being affected by the measurement.
Problem 2: Measurement is affected by antenna adhesion.
Another radar level meter in an enterprise also had a problem when measuring maleic anhydride, and the level indication showed a large jump.
Upon inspection, it was found that there was white crystalline powder attached to the radar level meter antenna, with a thickness of approximately 3 mm. In addition, the installation receiver was also covered with adhering material. After treatment, the radar level meter measurement returned to normal.
As a result, the technical staff of the company added electric heating to the installation receiver and the meter, which allowed the cleaning cycle to be extended appropriately and reduced the work intensity of the personnel concerned.
Generally speaking, a small amount of attachment to the radar level meter measurement does not cause any impact, but when the attachment is to a certain amount, the radar signal is weakened to a certain degree, the measurement signal will be lost, and there is no measurement. Therefore, if the measurement is affected due to antenna adhesion, in addition to regular cleaning of the antenna, a blowing device can be added or a heat tracing device can be added if necessary.
The above two types of problems can occur not only when the radar level meter is measuring maleic anhydride, but also when measuring other media. Therefore, when choosing a radar level meter, it is also necessary to learn the basic fault handling and maintenance methods to ensure the long-term use of the instrument.
