Radar level meter maintenance methods - Just Measure it

Radar level meter maintenance methods

A radar level meter is a highly reliable non-contact level measuring instrument, which emits microwaves to the measured medium through an antenna, and then measures the time difference or frequency difference between the microwave emission and reflection to obtain the actual level in the vessel.

The measurement is not affected by the temperature, viscosity, density, and dielectric constant of the measured medium. However, for the interface measurement, the variation of the top dielectric constant will reduce the accuracy of the interface measurement. Radar waves can penetrate many foams, smoke, and vapor media for accurate level measurements.

These features and advantages of radar level meters have made them widely used in liquid level measurement. Although the radar level meter has many advantages, attention should be paid to routine maintenance in daily use to make the most of its advantages.

Generally speaking, the daily inspection and maintenance of radar level meter mainly includes the following points

First, check whether the power supply voltage and output current are normal. After the instrument is powered on, it usually takes 30~60 minutes to work normally and stably. However, if no voltage or current output is found after the instrument is put into use, attention should be paid to checking whether the power supply has actually been connected and whether the fuse is blown. In the process of inspection and maintenance, short-term downtime of no more than 2 months, it is not necessary to cut off the power supply of the instrument.

Second, the internal use temperature of the radar level meter head is 65, generally not more than 65. However, if the temperature of the measured medium is very high, the internal working temperature of the radar level meter head may exceed 65℃. In this case, six copper pipes can be used to cool the inside of the radar meter by blowing wind into the radar meter head through the rain cap. However, it should be noted that water or other liquids should not be used for cooling.

Thirdly, check whether the sealing condition of each component connection is good. The radar level meter is integrated with the equipment. Since the whole system is sealed, it is usually necessary to check whether the sealing of the joints of the components is good.

Fourth, deal with the fault that the output of the instrument is always at the maximum value. When using the radar level meter, if the output of the instrument is always at the maximum value, this situation may be caused by water drops under the quartz window that detects the return signal. Under normal circumstances, it will work normally after cleaning with water.

If the quartz crystal is stained with materials or spoils, it needs to be cleaned up in time. The specific operation method is: close the ball valve, remove the cover flange and quartz window flange, wipe the surface with a cotton cloth dipped in alcohol, gasoline, and other solvents in time, pay attention not to scrub with alkaline solvents, and finally dry the glass in time.

During the cleaning process, take care not to remove the fixing screws of the time-sensitive window and use metal pliers to avoid damaging the spraying layer on the surface of the time-sensitive window. When reinstalling the window flange, replace the stainless steel winding gasket as needed to avoid leakage.
