What to look for in a radar level meter for ammonia tanks

As the technology of radar level meters is improving day by day, more and more industries are using radar level meters instead of other level measuring instruments. Cold-rolled sheet mills, which were used to use magnetic flap level meters, have also started to introduce radar level meters.

There is a process in the production of cold-rolled sheet mills for acid regeneration systems. In this process, the new acid tank, the regeneration acid tank, and the ammonia tank need to be measured using level meters.

Ammonia, the aqueous solution of ammonia, is characterized by its corrosive and volatile nature. As the temperature increases and is stored for a long time, the volatility of ammonia increases day by day. When selecting a radar level meter for this medium, non-contact radar level meters should be considered first, such as the HBRD902T. This product is used for temperature and pressure-resistant, corrosion-resistant liquids, steam, and crystallization resistant.

However, non-contact radar level meters are a little more expensive compared to guided wave radar level meters. From a cost perspective, rod-type guided wave radar level meters made of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) is also available. Rod-type guided wave radar level meters have a high penetration capacity for steam and foam and the PTFE material is acid and alkali resistant.

Ammonia tank measurement, no matter what kind of radar level meter is chosen, needs to be checked and maintained regularly during use.

Firstly, check the radar level meter voltage and current regularly to see if they are normal. This step is critical and is directly related to the normal operation of the cold-rolled sheet plant and the service life of the radar level meter.

Secondly, the radar level meter antenna is regularly checked and treated for adhesion. Ammonia has certain volatility and as the temperature increases, the volatility will increase. Therefore, after a period of time, it is important to check and maintain the antenna to prevent it from affecting the measurement effect.

Finally, regularly calibrate the radar level meter. I once read an example where the level of an ammonia tank suddenly dropped from 60% to 10% during ammonia measurement in a cold rolling sheet plant. The relevant engineer checked the meter and found that there was a problem with the parameters, and the fault disappeared after debugging. Therefore, it is essential that the radar level meter is regularly checked and calibrated.

Radar level meter measuring ammonia tank, the importance of selection and maintenance. When selecting the type, you need to consider many aspects, do not be one-sided. When maintaining, pay attention to the time interval, not too often, and do not know maintenance only when problems arise.
